Recommended Money Saving Upgrades

Boiler Upgrades
Good: Intellidyne Intellicon HW+ hot water boiler economizer. Control extends off cycle time to prevent short cycling and increase efficiency. You can expect to see a 5 to 10% energy savings with this control. Inexpensive and simple to install for our technicians. Better: Taco PC-700 boiler reset control with outdoor reset capability. This allows the boiler to vary the output temperature of your heating system to more closely match what is needed to heat the space at the current outdoor temperature. Slightly more expensive to install than the Intellidyne, but has potential for greater savings. Expected savings are 5 to 15%. You may also notice a more consistent and uniform temperature in your home in the spring and fall giving you increased comfort. Best: Honeywell Aquatrol AQ2000 switching relay. This control allows you to compensate your boiler water temp much the same as the Taco unit above. It also does zone synchronization, which allows the boiler to "top off" all heat zones when there is a call for heat. The result is an extended time period between heat calls thus increasing efficiency even more. You will likely notice a more consistent temperature in your home during the entire heating season giving you increased comfort. Also displays outside temp on each thermostat and includes programmability for temperature setback, etc. Expected savings are 8 to 18%.
Efficiency Upgrades
Programmable Thermostats Programmable Thermostats are a great upgrade to make to your heating system. They allow you to automatically set the temperature in your home up or down at different times depending on your lifestyle. So when you're at work each day or while you're sleeping the heat is turned down which results in less fuel being burned to heat your home. Zoning: Dampers are available which allow us to break your hot air heating system down to room by room if desired. This allows you to heat only the rooms you use while allowing the rooms you don't use to be set at a colder temperature. This saves money and reduces the amount of energy necessary to heat your home. (Upgrade suitable for hot air heating systems) Humidification: We can install a whole house humidifier on your warm air furnace. This will allow you to keep the humidity at the right level in your home which allows you to feel warm at a lower temperature. This in turn allows you to leave the thermostat setting down a little bit and still be warm resulting in fuel savings and increased efficiency. (Upgrade suitable for hot air heating systems)
